Modularisation
The learning content of the ZHW’s degree programmes is divided into and taught as modules. Exact information is provided for each module, stating what prior knowledge is required and what competencies will be acquired. Students’ workload is measured in ECTS credits and graded with marks.
The aim of modularisation is to align learning content to target competences, to encourage more responsibility in students, to promote more flexibility and mobility, and to facilitate measuring workload and performance of students.
Detailed module descriptions (in German) can be viewed online at eventoweb.zhwin.ch. Standard study plans with the recommended sequence of modules (in German) can also be viewed online (degree programme descriptions – in German – can be accessed at www.zhwin.ch/studium/).
Academic advisers in each degree programme help students to put together the most suitable combination of modules for their needs.
Learning is divided into
- Class instruction: approx. 30-40% (i.e. in lectures, tutorials, laboratory work, practicum)
- Guided self-study: approx. 10-20%
- Self-study: approx. 50%
