ECTS: European Credit Transfer System
To ensure uniform and comparable assessment, students’ performance at the ZHW has been rated according to the ECTS systems since the winter semester 2003/04 in addition to grading by marks.
After each successfully completed module students are awarded a certain number of ECTS credit points. More information can be found in the module descriptions (in German) at eventoweb.zhwin.ch.
One ECTS credit is awarded for 30 working hours (self-study and class instruction). 60 credits are expected to be acquired per year of study, i.e. the total study time required for a degree is about 1800 hours per year.
Learning is divided into
- Class instruction: approx. 30-40% (i.e. in lectures, tutorials, laboratory work, practicum)
- Guided self-study: approx. 10-20%
- Self-study: approx. 50%
ECTS credits acquired at another university are recognised, provided that certain conditions have been fulfilled. Please contact the study counsellor of your degree programme for more information.
