Nursing: Why study nursing at a University of Applied Sciences?

Nursing is a profession with many facets. The centre of attention is the individual with his or her physical, psychological and social needs and demands. The broader context involves partners, family, representatives of various professional groups, specialists in health care institutions and a complex health care system.

Nursing is an extremely demanding profession. Apart from professional expertise, certain personal qualities are also vital. Nursing requires professionals who can maintain an overview of the complex system in which they operate and develop new strategies to solve the problems they face. It requires people who carry out nursing actions and use their comprehensive knowledge to bring about improvements in the nursing profession.

The degree programme in Nursing prepares graduates to master the challenges of health care, today and in the future. Students acquire the practical and theoretical expertise which will enable them to analyse processes, develop concepts and implement solutions.

We are oriented towards evidence-based nursing. Teaching is thus based on the latest scientific findings, patients’ preferences and reflection on professional experience. The Bachelor’s degree programme prepares graduates to develop and apply effective nursing methods.

Studying at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences Winterthur (ZHW) provides the foundation for a career in nursing, whether in a health institution or in education and training.
